WASHINGTON, DC – The Capitals players and staff are enjoying the pleasantries of the offseason with rest, recovery, and game-planning. Most analysts think they have had an excellent offseason.
Last season, the Caps were nothing short of inconsistent. They had a poor shootout record which set at 2-0-6 by seasons end. They had several mid-season slumps and key injuries.
Gracefully though, the Caps were just a game away from securing a spot as the final team to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Ending the season with 42 wins and 93 points.
This season is a whole new process, as the front office made sure to fill out those loose ends so to speak.
A new addition in Alex Tuch, the 30-year-old was acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres. The Forward will bring a plethora of experience and goal-scoring ability. A 3x 30-goal-scorer, last season having a remarkable year with 66 points overall, 33 goals, 33 assists.
Another big move was the signing of Boone Jenner, the 33-year-old Forward is a versatile option because of his ability to play center or wing. He had 38 points in 67 games last season. He had 13 goals and 25 assists.
The time realistically has to be ticking for Alex Ovechkin and his eventual retirement. The Great 8 signed a 1-year extension to play in his 22nd season. For now, we are only guaranteed the 2026-2027 season.
“I’m back!” Ovechkin said in a release. “Thank you to everyone for giving me and my family the time to make this decision. I’m healthy. I love playing hockey and competing to win. I’m excited to come back and join my teammates so we can fight for a playoff spot and have a chance to win. See you in September, DC!”
The Capitals have also shown some hope for the future, Forwards Ilya Protas, Ivan Miroshnichenko, and Andrew Cristall will be young players to watch this upcoming stretch.
Stanley Cup aspirations remain the focus, and the Capitals are on paper one of the best teams in the National Hockey League, but that is why you play the games.
